Dorchester Town Council Cemeteries
This is the current fee for the purchase of a new grave at Poundbury Cemetery including the cost of digging and preparing the grave. Poundbury Cemetery is the only cemetery in Dorchester where you can purchase new graves. Any burials in other Dorchester cemeteries must be in existing family graves. This does not include fees for the attendance of a religious minister or celebrant.
Local Churchyard - Including Gravedigging
This is the current fee for a burial taking place in a churchyard immediately preceding or following on from a service in a church. The fee is different if burial takes place on a separate occasion or the funeral service takes place at the graveside.
Only existing family graves can be used in all Dorchester churchyards. Village churchyards are generally for parish residents only (subject to availability).
Minister of Religion/Non-Religious Celebrant
This cost is in line with the current Church of England fee and an average for a local celebrant.
If a service at a church is required, either before or after burial takes place, there will be a combination of church, verger and organist fees. These costs vary with each church.
Natural Burial Ground
This is the current fee for a burial plot in the Spinney area at Dorset Downs near Dorchester, including grave preparation and registration fee.

A limousine can take up to 7 family members or friends to the service, either following the hearse or separately. We have additional limousines if required
If any family members or friends are visiting the deceased in our chapel of rest it can sometimes be appropriate to carry out some hygienic treatment in order to ensure that your loved one can be presented to the highest standard. The Funeral Director will advise you further on this matter.
Recording Names and Supplying a Typed List
We can supply two or three members of staff to take the names of all those who attend the service. These names are then typed up and a printed list of the names is sent to you
We can advise on the options available for floral tributes, and either liaise with a local florist on your behalf or give you their contact details so you can speak to them directly.
A notice advising of the details for the funeral can be placed in a local newspaper and/or in a national newspaper. The cost depends on the length of the notice but notices in national newspapers are significantly higher than those in local newspapers
Alternative Hearses (Horse Drawn or Motorcycle)
If you would prefer an alternative to a traditional motor hearse, a horse drawn funeral carriage or a motorcycle hearse can be used to transport the deceased to the service
